Too often when we say that teachers must "meet students where they are" we emphasize what they lack: deficiencies they bring with them to our classrooms. But "where students are" is at least equally about their strengths--life experiences and adult-grade cultural capital that we may not recognize because we haven't been trained to see it as part of "college-readiness." This session will share practical ways to remove such blind spots through "CRT," Culturally Relevant Teaching that acknowledges and empowers students' rich, profound stores of knowledge, capability, and character. I'll propose a new CRT, Culturally
Responsive Teaching, that roots course content and delivery in students' abundant readiness.
